A wide variety of subfactions fill the ranks of the fringe. Fringe units may be added to any army because they're mostly mercenaries, bounty hunters, crime lords, and many others who are free to choose any side in a battle. Some of the most famous fringe include: Jabba the Hutt, Dash Rendar, Lando Calrissian, Nym, Bib Fortuna, Wicket the Ewok, and Boba Fett.
What once was the Republic became the Empire when Senator Palpatine became Emperor Palpatine and Order 66 turned the clone troopers into stormtroopers under the Emperor's control. Some of the most famous Imperial forces include: Emperor Palpatine (also known as Darth Sidious), Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, Admiral Ozzel, Admiral Piett, Emperor's Hand Mara Jade, Baron Fel, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and General Veers.
The Mandalorians were an ancient and formidable warrior race. Their armor of choice would later be worn by Jango Fett and Boba Fett. Some of the most famous Mandalorians include: Mandalore the Indomitable.
Following the fall of the Empire, the New Republic formed. These forces must keep the remnants of the Empire from regaining control of the galaxy. Some of the most famous New Republic include: Senator Leia Organa Solo, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, Admiral Ackbar, Garm Bel Iblis, Talon Karrde, Jedi Kyle Kartan, Jedi Mara Jade, Corran Horn, Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, and Han Solo.
The Old Republic is an ancient faction dating back to thousands of years before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This era of the Republic was at least 1,000 years before. Some of the most famous Old Republic forces include: Bastila Shan.
Following the rise of the Empire, the Rebellion formed. These troops are trying to gain their freedom from the rule of Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, and the rest of the Imperial forces. Some of the most famous Rebel forces include: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3P0, Wedge Antilles, Mon Mothma, and Admiral Ackbar.
The armies of the Republic were the dominant force in the galaxy through the Clone Wars. This army mostly fills its ranks with clone troopers of all types and members of the Jedi Order. Some of the most famous Republic forces include: Jedi Master Yoda, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master Mace Windu, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Senator Padme Amidala, Quinlan Vos, R2-D2, C-3P0, Clone Commander Cody, Clone Commander Gree, Clonde Commander Bacara, Chewbacca, Tarfful, Captain Antilles, and Senator Bail Organa.
The armies of the Separatists were the rebellious forces in the galaxy during the Clone Wars. This army mostly fills its ranks with battle droids of all types and members of the various confederate races that make up the Separatists. Some of the most famous Separatist forces include: Count Dooku (also known as Darth Tyranus), Aurra Sing, Darth Maul, San Hill, Wat Tambor, General Grievous, Nute Gunrary, and Jango Fett.
The Sith is an ancient faction dating back to thousands of years before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. These particular Sith lived at least 1,000 years before. Some of the most famous Sith forces include: Darth Bane, Darth Revan, Darth Malak, Darth Nihilus, Exar Kun, and Ulic Qel-Droma.
A strange race of villains from another galaxy, the Yuuzhan Vong seem to be quite immune to the Force. Their forces fight the New Republic and the New Jedi Order. Some of the most famous Yuuzhan Vong include: Yomin Carr, Nom Anor, and Warmaster Tsavong Lah.
