- Water of Life: The liquid exhalation of a sandworm
produced at the moment of its death from drowning, which is changed by a Fremen
Reverend Mother to become the narcotic which increases awareness. Since it
is before changing a poison, only those worthy of becoming Reverend Mothers
among the Fremen survive it. [DUNE]
- wormhole arc: A power surge aimed at an outgoing
stargate will cause the wormhole to jump, or "arc," to a different
destination. The phenomenon first occurred when an unintentional weapons surge
on P4A-771 caused an incoming wormhole to leap the default SGC gate to the
beta stargate in Antarctica. [SG1]
- wormhole physics: Stargates are giant superconductors
that absorb energy directly in many forms. As the inner wheel spins, the chevrons
lock the address symbols in place and an artificial wormhole forms between
two open gates, transferring an energized matter stream along an extra-dimensional
conduit within a subspace field. The wormhole travels in only one direction,
however certain kinds of energy including radiation, gravity, and radio transmissions,
can be sent back through an outgoing wormhole. The kawoosh, or initial unstable
vortex of gate activation, stabilizes to form the water-like effect of the
event horizon. The event horizon is comprised of quantum particles. Stepping
through the event horizon allows instantaneous interplanetary travel. [SG,
SG1, SGA]
