R
- Ra: Egyptian god of the sun and a Goa’uld killed by
Col. Jack O’Neill when he sent a tactical nuclear weapon, coupled with naquadah,
up to Ra’s mothership over Abydos. Ra had used the stargate near Giza, Egypt,
to establish his power base on Earth. Later, the Egyptians rebelled and burried
the stargate. [SG]
- Raider: See Cylon Raider and Cylon Raider, classic.
[BG, CBG]
- Raptor, Colonial: This surveillance and reconnaissance
ship is 29 feet long. It’s affiliated with the Colonial military, is capable
of hyperlight jumps, and is operational in atmosphere or in space. Its crew
is a pilot and an Electronic Countermeasures Officer (ECO). The rugged and
versatile workhorse of the Colonial military, this adaptable ship has proven
to be invaluable in the fleet’s struggle for survival. Originally intended
as a medium-range recon vehicle, the Raptor has been used as everything from
a boarding vessel to an ordinance delivery platform. Though not as fast as
the Colonial Viper Mark VII, it is also an effective combat platform, sporting
electronic countermeasures capable of thwarting many Cylon weapons. [BG]
- Red Ninja, Cobra: Their identities unknown,
these forces of Cobra are code name: The Enemy. Their primary military speciality
is vehicle operations and secondary military speciality is ninja. They are
ruthless mercenaries who work mainly for Cobra Commander. They earn top dollar
in battle because they are one of the most-feared ninja warrior clans of all
time. When Red Ninjas enter a fight, they’re in it until the bitter end (or
until they get paid more money to fight someone else). G.I.Joe is the only
force that has ever defeated them, but they had to call upon every tactic
and weapon in their arsenal before they were able to subdue them. Red Ninjas
possess advanced ninjitsu skills that are hard to find, and they fight like
razor-toothed sharks in a feeding frenzy. "We spin and chop with sword
and battle axe so quickly that you never see the blades coming." [GIJ]
- Reverend Mother: Originally, a leader of the Bene Gesserit,
one who has transformed an "illuminating poison" within her body,
raising herself to a higher state of awareness. Title adopted by Fremen for
their own religious leaders who accomplished a similar illumination. [DUNE]
- Rygel XVI: The former dominar of the Hynerian Empire
and a member of the crew of Moya, living starship. He was ousted from his
throne by his cousin and hoped to oneday return to his Empire while commanding
a massive force to retake it. Though greedy and not completely trustworthy,
he eventually became a friend to the rest of Moya’s crew. [FAR]
