- Macabee, Pierce: A regional director of the Ministry
of Peace, Pierce Macabee visited Babylon 5 in 2259 to give a series of speeches
to gain support for the Ministry’s programs, including the Nightwatch. Macabee
was particularly keen to enlist the support of Talia Winters. (Played
by Alex Hyde-White.) (Z’HA’DUM) [BAB5]
- maintenance ’bot: Robot used to monitor and repair
the exterior of Babylon 5’s hull. (GATHERING) [BAB5]
- maker hooks: The hooks for capturing, mounting, and
steering a sandworm of Arrakis. [DUNE]
- Malachi, Prime Minister: The Centauri prime
minister under Emperor Turhan. Malachi served Turhan well and is believed
to have committed suicide when the emperor died. However, he wassassinated
by Lord Refa and his associates during their coup d’etat. (Played by Malachi
Throne.) (SHADOWS) [BAB5]
- Malax: A non-aligned planet destroyed by Jha’dur
in 2231. (DEATHWALKER) [BAB5]
- Malios: Centauri cruiser attacked and destroyed
by the N’Ton in September 2259. The Malios was later discovered to
have been carrying weapons for the Narn-Centauri War. (WORD) [BAB5]
- Malten, Arthur: Former head of the Association of Commercial
Telepaths, Arthur Malten was later exposed as the leader of a revolutionary
movement which had planted a number of bombs in an effort to discredit Free
Mars. Malten himself was subsequently killed by Free Mars terrorists. (VOICES)

- "manya": Word for "mother" used
by Shon. (BELIEVERS) [BAB5]
- Maray, Kiron: A Centauri youth and cousin
of Vir Kotto. When Kiron Maray arrived on Babylon 5 with stolen credit chips,
he was immediately arrested by Security and subsequently placed into Ambassador
Mollari’s custody. He told the ambassador he had fallen in love with Aria
Tensu, but was supposed to marry the "ugliest woman on Centauri Prime."
Kiron was shot with a PPG during a Homeguard attack and was left for dead.
When he recovered, he learned both he and his girlfriend would be fostered
by Andilo Mollari until they came of adult age, when they could decide for
themselves who they wanted to marry. (Played by Rodney Eastman.)

- Markabs: Non-aligned race aboard Babylon 5,
wiped out by Drafa in 2259 (CONFESSIONS). The Markabs were known for their
religious rituals in which they used psychotropics to lose control of themselves
(KNIVES). Although some Markabs on isolated colonies may have survived the
Drafa plague, the race is effectively dead (CONFESSIONS). [BAB5]
- Marie Celeste, The: An Earth Alliance transport.

- Mariel: The youngest of Londo Mollari’s three wives.
The ambassador said she was attracted to men of power like months are to light.
However, while the moths were burned by the light, Mariel burns the men! Mariel
claimed to be a giving, passionate, and faithful wife just before the bought
a Narn booby trap disguised as a Centauri artifact in an effort to kill her
husband. When Londo survived, she was divorced. (Played by Blair Valk.)

- Mars Colony, The: The Mars Colony was the most-controversial
issue on Earth (MIDNIGHT). Many members of Earth’s population felt they were
being taxed so the "Marsies" could get the best atmosphere reprocessors
and water reclamation technology (VOICE I). In 2258, the Mars Colony was the
site of a bloody revolt against the Earth-appointed provisional government.
Rebels, many of whom were part of the Free Mars movement, threatened that
the "sands will run red with Earther blood" unless Mars was given
its independence from Earth (VOICE I). Eventually, President Santiago bowed
to pressure from the Earth Senate and used elite shock troops to quell the
riot (VOICE III). In 2259, FutureCorp chief executive Taro Isogi proposed
a peaceful settlement to the Mars crisis, but was assassinated shortly after.
Amanda Carter of the Mars Conglomerate later decided to pursue Isogi’s plan
as a tribute to his memory. (SPIDER) The first colony was destroyed by a surprise

- Mars Conglomerate, The: Mars’ leading and monopolistic
corporation. (SPIDER) [BAB5]
- Mars Rebellion: Revolt against the Earth-appointed
government on Mars which took place in 2258. The Mars Rebellion was quelled
when Earth Alliance President Santiago authorized the use of shock troops
(VOICE I, II). There have been other insurrections prior to this, such as
the Mars food riots, triggered by an Earth supply embargo. [BAB5]
- mass drivers: Powerful weapon of mass destruction
outlawed by virtually ever civilized race. Used by the Centauri Republic in
2259 to decimate the Narn homeworld. (TWILIGHT) [BAB5]
- Matok: Rebel stronghold during the civil war
on Akdor. Conquered by Earth Alliance forces during Operation: Sudden Death
in 2259. (GROPOS) Also see Operation: Sudden Death. [BAB5]
- Max: A vicious bounty hunter, Max said everything interested
him. He took the fugitive physician Dr. Everett Jacobs hostage in 2259 and
wanted a 10,000-credit "finder’s fee" for his safe return to Eathforce
Special Intelligence. Sadly for him, his plans were thwarted by Garibaldi
and Franklin. (Played by Richard Moll.) (HUNTER) [BAB5]
- Mayan, Shal: A highly-respected Minbari poet and writer
of Ti’Lar. Shal Mayan traveled widely and believed all sentient beings are
best defined by their capacity and need for love. She had no regrets. While
aboard Babylon 5 in 2258, Mayan was brutally attacked and branded by a vicious
pro-Earth group, the Homeguard. She declined the offer of a bodyguard or a
security escort because she had never been attacked before and couldn’t see
why she would be. Her work had sometimes caused lively and heated discussion,
but nothing more. Shal Mayan found the Homeguard’s hatred incomprehensible
(PRAYER). She later returned to Babylon 5 from Earth and was given a full
security escort while aboard the station (EYES). (Played by Nancy Grahn.)

- Maynard, Capt. Jack: Captain Jack Maynard became John
Sheridan’s first commanding officer when he worked on the Moon-Mars Patrol.
They became great friends and Maynard once quoted him an ancient Egyptian
blessing: "God be between you and harm in all the empty places where
you must walk." Maynard is known as "Stinky" to Sheridan. Maynard
saw Sheridan on ISN when he was posted to Babylon 5 and was surprised he had
accepted the post. However, he was extremely grateful when Sheridan and the
station’s crew rescued his ship, the Cortez, from hyperspace. Something embarassing
happened to Maynard when he took leave on Mars, but he refuses to allow anyone
to talk about it. While in Sector 857, Maynard caught sight of a Shadow ship.

- Maze, The: Labyrinth situated in Babylon 5’s
Red Sector. [BAB5]
- McMurdo Station: The closest piece of civilization
to the original site of the beta stargate in Antarctica. McMurdo Station was
about 50 miles away from the crevasse buried deep in the ice. [SG1]
- medbracelet: Device worn around the wrist
for a doctor to monitor a patient’s condition. (KNIVES) [BAB5]
- medlabs: Babylon 5’s medical facilities. As chief medical
officer aboard Babylon 5, Dr. Franklin works in the primary medlab and supervises
the activities of all the other doctors on the station, many of whom are based
in the other medlabs. Although patients have to pay for treatment, the medlab
facilities are undermanned and lack sufficient resources (MERCY, STRIFE).
Medlab One was redesigned and refitted in 2260 (MATTERS). [BAB5]
- Melange (May-lahnj): The "spice of spices,"
the crop for which Arrakis is the unique source. The spice, noted for its
geriatric qualities, is of greatest importance in empowering the Guild Navigators
with the ability to "fold space," thus uniting the Universe under
the Emperor. [DUNE]
- Mentat (Men-tat): That class of Imperial citizens trained
for supreme accomplishments of logic -- known as "human computers."

- Michaels, Col. John: In 1982, he led Captains O’Neill
and Kawalsky during Operation East Fly, a failed mission to retrieve a Russian
agent from East Germany. [SG1]
- Moya: A living ship known as a Leviathon. Each Leviathon
had a Pilot infused with it to help guide the ship and control its starburst
and other important systems. Moya’s crew included: Pilot, John Crichton of
Earth, Aeryn Sun of the Peacekeepers, Ka D’Argo, Rygel XVI, Chiana, Jool,
Pa’u Zotoh Zhaan, their former nemesis Commander Crais, and even for a while,
the half-breed Scorpius. [FAR]
