Special Delivery

A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper calls an insurance company via cell phone after a letter carrier left her unoccupied vehicle running at the top of a hill and it rolled down into a house in the Tri-Lakes Area. This photo also ran in The Kansas City Star and the Independence Examiner.

College Tragedy

The day after a plane crash killed six College of the Ozarks employees and students, the pilot’s wife is comforted by a member of the college’s aviation department. This photo also ran on the front page of The Kansas City Star and was featured in an issue of the Missouri-Kansas AP Log. Special thanks to AP staffer Cliff Schiappa for helping me with that transmission when problems arose.

Slippery When Wet

This photo won second place in the news photography category of the 1998 Missouri Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. What I like about it are all the elements that tell the story of what happened.

Christmas Grinch

Someone decided to spoil Branson’s Christmas cheer in 1998. Vandals damaged many of the lights from the Branson Area Festival of Lights. Here, Branson Assistant Police Chief Carrol McCullough and another officer examine the scene of the crime.

Moving Minerva

Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom and justice, is removed from atop the Johnson County (Mo.) Courthouse in Warrensburg. The statue was restored and later returned to its high location.

Heat Wave

A Joplin (Mo.) Street Department employee takes a break from paving Main Street to drink right out of the crew’s water cooler during the summer heat wave of 2000.
